Maryland basketball takes its 18-2 record and five-game winning streak to Minnesota for a Saturday afternoon matchup. The Terps sit atop the Big Ten and can improve to 7-1 in conference play with a victory.
Winning conference road games isn’t easy, but Maryland enters this game 3-0 away from home in the Big Ten. None of the three wins—which came over Michigan, Illinois and Iowa—were blowouts, but a fourth against Minnesota would be significant. Last year’s Maryland team went 4-5 in such games, with a loss to the Golden Gophers (who were winless in conference play at the time) being perhaps the most damaging.
The Terps brought in all 11 rotation players for just the second time all season Tuesday against Rutgers, but won’t take the full squad into this matchup. Sophomore guard Dion Wiley is still battling a back injury and won’t travel with the team. However, junior center Michal Cekovsky, who returned from an ankle injury Tuesday, could see an expanded role against the Golden Gophers.
The Numbers
Maryland: 18-2, 7-1
Minnesota: 15-6, 3-5
Last time they played: Minnesota upset Maryland 68-63 in Minneapolis last February.
Odds: Minnesota is favored by 4.5 points.
