Today’s the day! Maryland football returns to action, DJ Durkin makes his official debut, and this is our best chance yet to evaluate the team’s strengths and weaknesses when the Terps take on Howard at noon. We’ve been building toward this game for a long, long time, so there’s reason to be excited.
It shouldn’t be too much of a game, though. Howard is an FCS team, and a porous one at that. The Bison went 1-10 last fall, with a 76-0 loss to Boston College and a 49-0 loss to Appalachian State thrown in there. The team that faces Maryland this afternoon probably won’t be as bad, but it shouldn’t really be competitive.
For the Terps, this is more about seeing which players rise to the occasion of a real game, and which offensive and defensive tricks work and which ones don’t. Expect to see a lot of different things on the field.
Howard: 0-0 (N/A FCS)
Maryland: 0-0 (N/A)
Odds: European sports book 5dimes had Maryland as a 48.5-point favorite this summer, but there are no readily available betting lines right now. S&P+ projects the Terps to win by 49.7 points.
