Maryland Madness is set for October 14, and the school is hinting at a SportsCenter theme

If only we could think of someone to host this.

Maryland basketball will celebrate the beginning of the 2016-17 season with its annual Maryland Madness event on Friday, Oct. 14 at 8 p.m., the school announced Thursday.

The tradition started in 1971 when Head Coach Lefty Driesell started practice at midnight, a practice that spread across the country. The whole thing is a bit different now, but it’ll still our first look at each squad’s new players.

Xfinity Center’s gates will open at 5, with the Maryland volleyball team taking on Iowa at 6. Admission for the night is free, and seating is first-come, first-serve.

From a school release, here’s the schedule of events:

- Doors Open, 5 p.m.

- Volleyball: Iowa at Maryland, 6:00 p.m. - XFINITY Center Main Floor

- Maryland Madness begins, 8:00 p.m.

- Women’s Basketball team introductions, 8:10 p.m.

- Men’s Basketball team introductions, 8:30 p.m.

Last year’s theme was “magic.” This tweet suggests we could be getting some sort of SportsCenter theme for this one.

If only Maryland had a famous alum who had something to do with SportsCenter who could host this.

[Update: welp.]
