5-star Maryland basketball target Jaren Jackson announcing commitment Thursday

This could be big.

Update: Yeah, he chose Michigan State.

Five-star Indiana small forward Jaren Jackson Jr. is announcing his commitment on Thursday, and the Maryland basketball team is one of five teams in the mix.

Thursday is his birthday, and he’s about to make it a very exciting one.

Maryland offered Jackson back in September 2015, and will have to beat out Notre Dame, Michigan State, Purdue and Georgetown for his services. Jackson’s dad, Jaren Sr., played at Georgetown before his 13-year NBA career.

The 6’10, 220-pound forward attends La Lumiere School in La Porte, Indiana. He’s the No. 3 player in Indiana and the No. 7 small forward in the class of 2017, according to the 247Sports Composite. (Though with his size, he projects as a power forward rather than a small forward in college.

Should he commit to Maryland, Jackson would be the first member of the program’s 2017 class. He’d also join Diamond Stone as the program’s second five-star commit in the last three years.
