Johnny Jordan commits to Maryland football: Terps land 3-star center

The Terps get their second commitment of the weekend.

Gonzaga High School (D.C.) center Johnny Jordan has committed to Maryland, he announced Saturday on Twitter.

Jordan is the No. 8 player in D.C. and the No. 14 center in the class of 2017, according to the 247Sports Composite. He also received offers from Boston College, Syracuse, Pittsburgh, Virginia and Virginia Tech, among other schools.

Jordan was named the offensive line MVP at the Washington, D.C. regional camp for Nike's The Opening in May. He's an interior lineman – probably a guard or a center at Maryland – but he's big, strong and had a number of Power 5 options. He's not a recruit on the same level as 2016 Maryland commits Terrance Davis or Richard Merritt (at least not now), or even 2015 guard Quarvez Boulware. But he's a quality prospect who should have the upside to play for multiple years in the Big Ten.

Brendan Moore is currently Maryland’s only scholarship center, so reinforcement at the position is much-needed.
