Maryland football starts its season in 44 days. Until then, we’re profiling every player on the roster.

Qwuantrezz Knight, defensive back

Height: 6’0

Weight: 190 pounds

Year: Freshman

High school: East Gadsden (Fla.)

Jersey No: 24

How Knight got to College Park

Knight was a three-star recruit according to the 247Sports Composite, and the only other FBS offer he received was from Eastern Michigan. He initially gave a verbal commitment to the Eagles last December, but he committed to Maryland in January three days after receiving his offer, and signed his letter of intent on National Signing Day.

Knight was a two-way player at East Gadsden, playing quarterback and free safety. He was a three-time all-county performer.

High school highlights

2016 prospectus

Maryland has some spots to fill in the secondary, so Knight could be in the mix early in his career, but we can’t say anything for sure until training camp gets underway. The Terps already had nine players in the rotation in the secondary during spring practice, and there are also four defensive back recruits from the class of 2016 that are rated ahead of Knight. He could see time on special teams, but redshirting isn’t out of the question either.

What a dream season might look like

Knight has a great training camp and gets a role in the secondary early in his career, setting, and sets himself up to play a role in the secondary in 2017.

The next player in the series..

Was born in Quincy, Massachusetts.
