Maryland football competing with Penn State, Alabama, 3 more for 3-star DB Tariq Castro-Fields

The local DB has Maryland in his top group.

The Maryland football team made the top-six list for three-star Riverdale Baptist (Md.) cornerback Tariq Castro-Fields, the three-star 2017 prospect said Tuesday.

Castro-Fields is ranked on the 247Sports Composite as the No. 44 cornerback in the 2017 class and the No. 11 player in Maryland. But his offers list sort of belies that. Whether any three-star DB’s Alabama offer is ultimately committable or not (I’m not sure, either way), he’s also considering Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Michigan State and Penn State.

That suggests several staffs see a lot of upside in him, and that’s not surprising. He’s listed at 6’1, and I thought he was one of the better defensive backs at Washington’s Nike Opening regional camp back in the spring. The 247 Crystal Ball currently leans toward Maryland, but we’ll see if that holds up.

Maryland currently has one defensive back commit for 2017, and that’s another local: four-star Potomac prospect Deon Jones.
