The Maryland football program continues to show interest in Carlos Carriere, a three-star receiver prospect from Alpharetta, Ga. The Terps offered Carriere, who stands 6'5, a scholarship at the beginning of March, and Carriere visited campus on Monday and took in a spring practice.
Carriere said he enjoyed his unofficial visit and liked Maryland's campus a lot, he said. He's been in close touch with Maryland receivers coach Chris Beatty, and he told us last month Maryland thinks he's a high-upside prospect.
"I was really impressed with the coaches and their interest in me," Carriere said Tuesday night. He said the coaching staff is "really pushing for me" because Maryland doesn't have a big receiver right now, either in its 2017 class or anywhere on the roster. Maryland doesn't have a receiver taller than 6'2, and no one on scholarship is taller than 5'11.
Carriere has offers from Kent State, Tulane, Jacksonville State, Navy and Elon, among others.
He's pretty high on Maryland, though, and the Terps have a legitimate shot at getting a commitment. He expects to make a decision at some point over the summer, though that timeline isn't certain.
"I really felt welcome there," he said.
