#5 Women's Basketball
Maryland women's basketball will likely fall out of the top-10 this coming week as they suffered a 10-point loss to top-ranked UConn and a nine-point loss at home to No. 9 Ohio State. They played three games over the course of six days and it showed at the end. They actually led at the half against Ohio State before the Buckeyes ground them down.
Record this week: 1-2 (83-73 loss to No. 1 UConn, 79-63 win over Illinois and a 80-71 loss to No. 9 Ohio State)
Record this season: (12-2, 1-1)
Grade for the week: C+. I'm going to give Maryland a C+ considering they gave UConn everything they could handle, won a Big Ten road game on two days rest and then led a top-10 Buckeyes team at halftime on one day's rest. Maryland certainly could have won against UConn and Ohio State but they continue to hurt themselves with turnovers.
Title Chances: 5. Despite their loss to Ohio State, Maryland still has a great shot to repeat as Big Ten champs.
Wrestling
Maryland wrestling didn't take advantage of a somewhat depleted field and took 21st out of 39 teams at the Midlands Championships in Evanston. Dawson Peck took 6th and was Maryland's only placer. Lou Mascola got to the quarters but dropped his next two matches just like Geoffrey Alexander did the year before. Maryland looked decent but did not look strong. This team placed a lot of people at this event last year and didn't come very close to doing so this year. Health once again appears to be a major liability for the Terrapins.
Record this week: 21st out of 39 teams at the Midlands Championships.
Record this season: (3-5, 0-2)
Grade for the week: C-. After placing in the top-10 as a team at last year's Midlands, the Terps only had one person on the podium in Dawson Peck. Finishing out of the top-20 is disappointing, but they also didn't send their full line-up.
Title Chances: 0. Maryland has no shot at winning the Big Ten.
