Maryland opens its 2015-2016 season against the Spiders of Richmond. As the fearless leader of Testudo Times, Pete Volk, noted in his preview, this will be one of the final times that we see Maryland play against an FCS program. It will be the last time that Maryland plays Richmond for a while. That being said, the Spiders might be happy with that since they have had very little success against Maryland in the all-time series.
Richmond brings in a new quarterback, Kyle Lauletta, who will probably make some mistakes before settling in. The Terps will look to make him uncomfortable, just like they did to Taylor Heinicke of Old Dominion when the Monarchs came to town. Maryland's defense pressured Heinicke into uncharacteristic mistakes and helped turn the game into a rout. Expect Maryland to send pressure early and try to make Lauletta beat them.
Maryland brings in an offensive line that has a little more talent than last year's line. Perry Hills, who emerged from the three-man quarterback competition to win the job, will need time to step up in the pocket and make his reads as he re-adjusts to the starting quarterback position.
Maryland has the edge in this game and should win by a very comfortable margin.
The numbers
Richmond: 0-0 (#18 FCS)
Maryland: 0-0 (N/A)
All-time record: 5-12-1 (Maryland leads the series)
FBS vs. FCS matchups typically don't have betting lines
