Maryland football recruiting roundup: Rahshaun Smith, Keith Simms schedule official visits

Two top-tier linebackers are visiting College Park.

Baltimore native and IMG Academy (FL) linebacker Rahshaun Smith has announced his official visit schedule, which will begin in the middle of October. The No. 2 ILB in the senior class will begin his official visits by stopping by Baton Rouge to visit LSU starting October 17. Smith will then visit the Auburn Tigers November 14 and then Maryland on December 4.  Clemson is still very much in the running for Smith's services, as his crystal ball currently favors the Tigers at 47%.

Smith is close to new Terps Director of Player Personnel Corey Robinson - Robinson was one of Smith's coaches at St. Frances Academy (MD) and at IMG. Even with LSU and Auburn in the fold with official visits, it has been said by some that it's a two-horse race with Clemson and Maryland. Regardless of who is in serious contention for Smith, landing him would be monumental news on the defensive end to go along with Dwayne Haskins on the offensive end.

There were no new offers to report this week.

Other News:

  • 2016 Mount Holly, NC (Mountain Island Charter) running back Robert Washington has de-committed from Syracuse. Washington, a 4-star senior, is close to Dwayne Haskins and has been linked to the Maryland commit as they have visited College Park together. Maryland is also targeting Michigan State commit Abdul Adams at the running back position, and it's unlikely the Terps would take more than one of the pair.

  • DeMatha wide receiver and Maryland wide receiver commit DJ Turner suffered a fractured fibula during the first quarter of the DeMatha-Miami Central game last Saturday. Turner is expected to make a full recovery, but will be out the remainder of this season. He's the second Maryland commit to suffer a season-ending injury so far this year.

  • Three-star Landon (Md.) linebacker Keith Simms has set an official visit to Maryland. California, Oregon and Virginia Tech are among the other schools involved in his recruitment.
