COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Big Ten champion Maryland women's basketball team released its 2015-16 Big Ten schedule Thursday and will host four 2015 NCAA Tournament teams in College Park.
Coming off of their second straight Final Four and sixth overall, the Terrapins will host NCAA Tournament participants Ohio State, Nebraska, Northwestern and Minnesota, as well as Indiana, Michigan, Michigan State, Purdue and Wisconsin at the XFINITY Center. Maryland will play Michigan, Northwestern, Ohio State, Purdue and Wisconsin twice.
The Terrapins will open their conference slate with their first-ever trip to Champaign, Ill. for a game on Thursday, Dec. 31. They will return home to host Ohio State on Saturday, Jan. 2 at the XFINITY Center. Maryland will welcome Nebraska to College Park on Thursday, Jan. 7.
Head coach Brenda Frese will return to her home state of Iowa for a matchup with the Hawkeyes on Sunday, Jan. 10 in Iowa City. Frese grew up 28 miles from Iowa City in Cedar Rapids.
The Terrapins will stay on the road for a midweek trip to Michigan on Thursday, Jan. 14, before heading home to host Northwestern on Sunday, Jan. 17. Maryland will trek to Madison, Wisc. for a meeting with the Badgers on Wednesday, Jan. 20, then will come home to welcome Michigan State to the XFINITY Center on Saturday, Jan. 23.
The Terps will head back out on the road for a midweek matchup at Penn State on Tuesday, Jan. 26. Maryland will close out the month of January with a home game against Indiana on Saturday, Jan. 30.
To start the last month of regular season, the Terrapins will travel to Purdue on Tuesday, Feb. 2, then will go to Ohio State on Monday, Feb. 8. They will host Purdue on Thursday, Feb. 11, then will play at Northwestern on Sunday, Feb. 14.
On Wednesday, Feb. 17, Maryland will welcome Michigan before a short road trip to Rutgers on Sunday, Feb. 21. The Terrapins will play their final two conference matchups at home - against Wisconsin on Thursday, Feb. 25 and against Minnesota on Sunday, Feb. 28 for Senior Day.
The Big Ten Tournament will be played March 2-6 in Indianapolis, Ind. The NCAA Tournament will begin March 18-21 at selected campus sites. The 2016 Final Four will be April 3-5 in in Indianapolis, Ind.
Maryland went 18-0 in Big Ten play in its first year in the league last year. Frese was named Big Ten Coach of the Year for the second time in her career, while juniors Brionna Jonesand Shatori Walker-Kimbrough both earned All-Big Ten First Team honors. The Terrapins beat Ohio State in the Big Ten Tournament final to sweep the regular season and tournament titles.
