Alex Crognale, Junior, Defense, No. 2

Stats:

Height: 6'5"

Weight: 195 lbs.

Collegiate stats: One goal, two assists.

High school: Gahanna Lincoln High School (Gahanna, Ohio)

How'd He Get to College Park?

Crognale was a standout on a very successful team at Gahanna Linclon. The team went a combined 40-1-3 in his junior and senior years, and he also won two state titles on the school's baseball team. Crognale was also a member of the Columbus Crew's academy team. Crognale enrolled early at Maryland in spring 2013.

As a freshman in 2013, Crognale started all 12 games in which he played. That year, he went scoreless on 12 shots, but got valuable experience as a starter on a playoff team. As a sophomore, he started 16 games in which he played, scoring one goal and and adding two assists.

Career Highlight:

Being named Big Ten defensive player of the week last October.

Dream Season:

Crognale becomes the anchor of the team's defense while upping his offensive game. He brings home the Big Ten defensive player of the year award.

2015 Prospectus:

Crognale should have a leadership role on the team. He and Chris Odoi-Atsem look to be the two leaders on the defensive end, especially with a new goalkeeper in the net. His goal and assist totals should go up, but obviously, his true value lies in his play on the defensive end.

Up Next:

Our final player in the series led the team in goals last season.
