How'd He Get to College Park?
Coming out of Glades Central High School, Rivals.com ranked him as a four star recruit and the No. 18 cornerback. He gained local and national recognition for his play on the gridiron: 2012 Defensive Player of the Year by The Palm Beach Post, Florida Class 5A All-State first team honors, served as a team captain and was named ESPN/Gatorade Florida Player of the Year as a junior.
He played in 13 games his freshman year (2013) and recorded 70 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, one interception and six passes defensed. As a result of his good play, he earned an Academic All-ACC selection, was named special teams player of the year at the team banquet and ranked third in the ACC in kick return and punt return average. In Maryland's first season as a Big Ten team and Likely's sophomore year (2014), he increased his tackle and interception totals with 83 and six respectively.
Here are his other accolades he has received:
Career Highlight:
Will Likely may be small in stature but he packs a big punch and he produces great results. Here are some highlights from his sophomore campaign:
Dream Season:
As a junior, he leads the defense with 100+ tackles and the secondary with 10+ interceptions. He also gets first team All-Big Ten for the second year in a row.
2015 Prospectus:
Likely is the unquestioned No. 1 cornerback for Maryland, now joined by Sean Davis at the position. Maryland has one of the most experienced secondaries in the country, and Likely provides the team with a lockdown corner to go along with his playmaking ability once he gets the ball into his hands. Due to his size, Likely is unlikely to leave for the NFL early, but he's certainly shown he's one of the top cornerbacks in the country.
Up Next:
Our next player is now at his third power conference school -- he didn't play a game at the first, but started some games at the second.
