High school highlights:
How'd He Get to College Park?
A Louisiana native, Collins's family was transplanted to the DC area after Hurricane Katrina. A quarterback/safety at Bishop McNamara (where Maryland also landed Damian Prince from), Collins committed to his new home team over offers from other Power 5 programs.
Collins fractured his ankle his freshman season while "horsing around" in a dorm, redshirting and missing the year. He did not see game action as a redshirt freshman last season.
Career Highlight:
Committing to Maryland.
Dream Season:
Collins breaks through in the safety rotation, setting himself up for a starting job next season.
2015 Prospectus:
Maryland's depth issues at the safety position are well-documented. Both starters (Anthony Nixon and A.J. Hendy) are seniors, and the Terrapins don't have a single underclassman at the position that they can feel terribly confident in for 2016. Collins may be as close as it gets -- he was pretty highly recruited out of high school, is an excellent athlete, and is older than some of the other candidates on the roster. With a strong season, he can secure his spot as a starter in 2016.
Up Next:
Our next player was the Gatorade Player of the Year in one of the nation's most fertile recruiting states as a junior.
