The Terps announced their 2015-16 non-conference schedule Tuesday.
Mark November 6 on your calendar as it will be the first look we get at what will likely be a top-five ranked Terrapin team. Maryland will start the season with an exhibition game against Southern New Hampshire, assistant coach Bino Ranson's alma mater.
Headlined by three powerhouse teams, Maryland is set to play against Georgetown, North Carolina and Connecticut.
"We're excited to play a strong and competitive non-conference schedule that includes terrific marquee matchup featuring some of college basketball's perennial powers," coach Mark Turgeon said in a press release. "This will provide great challenges and opportunities for our team prior to the start of conference play."
Those three schools have been a challenge for the Terps in its most recent encounters.
Though Maryland holds a 36-27 all-time series record against the Hoyas, the Terps were crushed the last time the two teams faced off, 75-48, in the Old-Spice Classic in 2008. The renewed rivalry will head to College Park this year for the first time since 1973.
The Terps played their former conference rival North Carolina Tar Heels in their final season in the ACC in 2014. In a 25-point effort from the Heels' Marcus Paige – who is returning for his senior season – Maryland lost 75-63. This year the teams will battle in the ACC/B1G challenge, a tournament which the Terps are tied for second in all-time wins.
Maryland played against UConn at the Barclays Center in 2013, its national championship winning season. The Huskies and Terps will return to New York for non-conference play, this time at Madison Square Garden, where Maryland will look to avenge its one-point loss.
