Maryland's recent hot streak in defensive back recruiting continued Sunday, when Frederick Douglass (Upper Marlboro, Md.) senior Devin Butler committed to the Terrapins, the prospect announced on Twitter. Butler plays quarterback at Douglass but is expected to play defensive back in College Park.

Butler's only other reported offer came from Eastern Michigan. The 6'3, 185-pound prospect visited Maryland recently, and joins fellow defensive back commits Travon Stott, Mike Viti, Tyrone Hill and Silas Kelly. Maryland is still targeting blue-chip athlete Trevon Diggs, who could play cornerback or wide receiver (or both) in College Park.
Here's his highlight tape from his junior season.
With Viti, Kelly and Butler, Maryland now has three safety recruits in the 2016 class. It was perhaps the biggest position of need numbers-wise in the class, as the Terrapins previously did not have any players at the position projected to still be on the roster in 2018.
