High school highlights:
How'd He Get to College Park?
Carpenter played for a very successful high school program in Brentwood. The school finished in the top five in the state in each of his four years. While there, he played on both the offensive and defensive lines and handled the long snapping duties. It may have been his size (or lack thereof) but Carpenter was neither rated by the recruiting services nor highly recruited.
His only offer came from Western Kentucky. Instead of accepting that chance, he chose to walk on to the Terrapins. Nate Renfro, Maryland’s punter at the time and himself a graduate of Brentwood Academy may have played some part in Carpenter’s decision or he may have simply seen a certain appropriate harmony between long snapper and Terrapin.
Career Highlight:
Being part of the three-headed team that led to Brad Craddock winning the Groza Award.
Dream Season:
Recovers from the injury that shortened his sophomore season by four games and helps Craddock to a second helping of Groza Award.
2015 Prospectus:
Perhaps in a bit of a surprise, Carpenter saw significant playing time last season, sharing the long snapping duties with true freshman Nate Adams. Adams was recruited as a scholarship player to the position and likely has the inside track to retain the starting position. However, as Carpenter learned at the end of his redshirt freshman season, he should be prepared to see some playing time.
Up Next:
The next player to be profiled is no relation but has the same surname as an Elite 89 Terrapin.
