Four-star Gilman (Md.) defensive tackle Ellison Jordan announced his college decision Friday, committing to Penn State over Maryland and Virginia Tech, the prospect announced on Twitter. Jordan was one of Maryland's top targets in the 2016 class, and follows Gilman teammate Devery Hamilton out of the state and to a Big Ten division rival. Hamilton committed to Michigan Wednesday.
A 6'0, 255-pound prospect, Jordan ranks as a four-star prospect by the 247Sports Composite, rating as the No. 17 defensive tackle in the class of 2016 and the No. 5 player in the state of Maryland. The Terrapins have commitments from the No. 2 (Dwayne Haskins) and No. 6 (Keandre Jones) prospects in the state.
Maryland has one defensive tackle commitment in the class in Ohio prospect Jeffery Pooler, but the recent shift to a 4-3 defense requires more bodies at the position. Expect the Terrapins' pursuit of Pittsburgh DT Rashad Wheeler to pick up now, especially if Penn State no longer has room in the class for him.
