Maryland basketball's 2015-2016 schedule: What we know so far

With Maryland set to take on Georgetown this fall, who else will the Terps face off against next season?

Evan Habeeb-USA TODAY Sports

The start of the 2015-16 college basketball season is still more than six months away, but Maryland's schedule for the upcoming season is starting to take shape. We now know that the Terps will tip off their season with a home game against Georgetown in the inaugural Gavitt Games on Nov. 17, but who else will Maryland face next season?

We know Maryland will participate in the Cancun Challenge in late November. In the semifinals of the event, it'll take on Illinois State on Nov. 24 at the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya.

Maryland will also take on Connecticut in the 2015 Jimmy V Challenge on Dec. 8. The Terps were scheduled to participate in the event in 2014 and take on Villanova, but had to withdraw due to a scheduling conflict.

We now know Maryland will face North Carolina in Chapel Hill on December 1st in this season's B1G-ACC Challenge. The event normally does a great job pairing the conference's teams based on expectations for the season and they've done so again this year, with the Terps vs. Tar Heels game potentially featuring a No. 1 vs. No. 2 game.

Non-conference schedule updates:

In terms of Big Ten Conference play, the school announced in February who Maryland would face at home and on the road for the 2015-16 season:

Home: Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Northwestern, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue, Rutgers, Wisconsin.

Away: Indiana, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern, Ohio State, Purdue, Wisconsin.

Maryland will face Michigan, Northwestern, Ohio State, Purdue, and Wisconsin twice next season.
