Maryland expected starting DT David Shaw to miss five months with injury
Shaw had been teaming up with Malik Jones on the interior of Maryland's new 4-3 defense, although injured Quinton Jefferson was expected to replace Jones as a starter once healthy. Shaw should be back in time for the season, but the No. 1 DTs for now will probably be Jones and Towson transfer Azubuike Ukandu -- Floridian Kingsley Opara is also hurt but should be back in the rotation soon.
"David Shaw is probably going to have surgery on that [knee]. It's a preexisting injury that happened during [last] season, and so it might be a situation where he can have surgery as early as tomorrow," Edsall said. "I think he'd be back ready for the season. David's one of those guys that's a hard worker."
