Maryland Minute 3.6.15 - Syracuse slammed by NCAA for violations

New, comments

The NCAA dropped the hammer on Syracuse and the result could be beneficial for Maryland.

Mark Konezny-USA TODAY Sports

The NCAA released its findings on Syracuse today and came down hard on its men's basketball program. The most extreme punishment was that the basketball program will lose three scholarships per year for four straight years. Why does that matter for Maryland? Because Syracuse is a big recruiter on the East Coast, including in the DMV. Having them down to just 10 scholarships will likely deter recruits from wanting to go there and limit who they can offer a scholarship. That potentially means less competition for Maryland from a school with a Hall of Fame coach.
