Maryland recruiting roundup: New offers, Michael Clark commits to the Terps

New, comments

The Terrapins received their fourth commitment in the 2016 class. Could they be closing in on the fifth?

It's been quite a whirlwind week and weekend for the Terrapin football program. From new offers, a commitment, big-time recruits visiting campus and Maryland targets Dwayne Haskins and Trevon Diggs teaming up with Maryland commit DJ Turner in 7-on-7 events, it's pretty busy to say the least.

The commitment came from under-the-radar OT Michael Clark. Clark, a 6'7 260-pound tackle from Downington East H.S. (Pa) committed to the Terrapins on March 27. Clark held offers from Maryland, South Carolina, Wake Forest and West Virginia according to 247.

Maryland lost out on Upper St. Clair (Pa.) OT Brandon Ford. Standing at a massive 6'6 300 pounds, Ford chose hometown Pittsburgh over various offers from MAC schools as well as the Terrapins. The Terps offered the prospect in February.

New 2016 offers:

  • Highly coveted Washington D.C. RB Abdul Adams received his 28th offer from Maryland on March 26. Adams, a 5'11 205-pound back has offers from Notre Dame, Rutgers and Michigan State among others. He also picked up his 29th offer from Robert Morris this past week.

  • Local OT Brian Plummer earned his first scholarship from the hometown Terps. After speaking with Plummer after he received the offer, the prospect stated that he "really loves the program" and said he is pretty close to making his decision.

  • Pittsburgh Panthers CB commit Tony Butler received an offer from Maryland on March 25.

Other Notes:

  • Local standout OT Jauan Williams continues to pile up the scholarship offers, this time from Pittsburgh.

  • Linebacker Koby Quansah, who currently holds an offer from Maryland, received an offer from North Carolina. He also went on an unofficial visit to Duke this past week.

  • Prized QB recruit Dwayne Haskins visited Duke this week. He also visited Florida and participated in a 7v7 event at IMG Academy where he and Trevon Diggs are shown here connecting for a game-winner.

  • Jarrett Guarantano, another prized quarterback in the 2016 class, will announce his decision April 15 at 3 p.m. ET. Guarantano will be choosing from Ohio State, Rutgers and Tennessee. Maryland fans should be cheering for a commitment to either the Buckeyes or Scarlet Knights, as a commitment to one of those schools would eliminate Haskins from going to the same school.

  • 2016 tight end Noah Turner visited North Carolina and North Carolina State this week and received offers from both universities. The NC State offer brings Turner to 15 total offers.

  • 2016 Virginia athlete JJ Givens also received an offer from NC State. The Terps offered the prospect March 9.

  • IMG Academy (Fla.) OT Cam Spence visited Penn State this past weekend. Spence, previously from Gilman, holds offers from Kentucky, Maryland, Penn State and NC State according to 247sports.

  • Terps target Trevon Diggs visited Florida with Haskins and DJ Turner (they're all on a 7-on-7 team that played in a tournament), and tweeted this picture while on his visit.
