Diamond Stone commits to Maryland: Terps pick up 5-star center

Stone is one of the highest rated recruits to ever commit to Maryland

Diamond Stone, the No. 5 overall player in the 2015 recruiting class and the No. 2 overall center in the country, committed to Maryland Friday evening, announcing his decision on Twitter.

Stone was one of the best remaining uncommitted prospects on the board and is by far the biggest land of the Mark Turgeon era. He took an official visit to Maryland back in October and appeared very interested in joining the Terrapins. He cut his list down to four a few months ago, naming Wisconsin, Maryland, Connecticut and Oklahoma State.

Maryland will benefit greatly from the addition of Stone, who could make the Terrapins a top ten team entering the 2015-16 season. The Terps front court was a point of weakness for much of the 2014-15 season. But the addition of Stone, paired with Jake Layman and Robert Carter Jr., will give the Terps one of the best front courts in the nation. Coupled with the expected return of star point guard Melo Trimble, Maryland will likely be considered a national title contender next season.

We'll have more on Stone shortly.
