The Maryland women have done it. The Terps received a No. 1 seed in the 2015 NCAA Tournament, joining UConn, Notre Dame and South Carolina at the tops of each region.
Maryland was placed in the Spokane Region and will face No. 16 New Mexico State in the opening round on Saturday. Tipoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2.
The Terps will play their first two rounds at XFINITY Center in College Park, facing the winner of 30-0 No. 8 Princeton vs. No. 9 Green Bay in the second round.
This is the first time the Terrapins have received a No. 1 seed since the 2008-09 season. Last season, the Terps were a No. 4 seed and reached the Final Four before falling to the Irish.
Other key teams in Maryland's region are No. 2 Tennessee, No. 3 Oregon State and No. 4 Duke.
The Terps got their No. 1 seed after going 30-2, including an 18-0 mark in the Big Ten and another three wins to claim the conference tournament title. Maryland hasn't lost since a 20-point loss to Notre Dame on Dec. 3. Its only other loss came a game before: a shocking six-point loss to Washington State, who finished the year 17-14.
