Printable NCAA Bracket 2015: Maryland starts in tough Midwest region

The Terps look set for a likely Sweet 16 showdown with Kentucky.

Marc Lebryk-USA TODAY Sports

Heading into Sunday's selection show, most Maryland fans had two wishes: 1) end up in the closer Pittsburgh Region and 2) end up as far away from Kentucky as possible. Neither of those happened, as the No. 8 Terps ended up with a No. 4 seed in the Columbus Region, with the Wildcats on the table as the most likely Sweet 16 matchup. Maryland will play its opening game of the tournament Friday, against Valparaiso.

Also in Maryland's region is Big Ten foe Purdue, who the Terrapins defeated 69-60 in an early January road game. The Boilermakers will play Cincinnati in the first round. On tap for a second round matchup with the Terps (if they get past Valparaiso) is either West Virginia or Buffalo, each of which could pose an interesting matchup against Maryland.

Elsewhere in the bracket, UCLA is one of the big surprises in the field, earning a No. 11 seed in the South Region. Another surprise: Georgetown received a No. 4 seed and will face Eastern Washington in Portland. Big Ten champions Wisconsin earned a No. 1 seed in the West Region, beating out Virginia (one of Maryland's only regular season losses). Iowa State, a team Maryland beat in the regular season, earned a No. 3 seed.
