NCAA Tournament bracket 2015: Maryland to face Valparaiso in Midwest Region

The Terps are a No. 4 seed ahead of Friday's opener against Valparaiso.

The Maryland men's basketball team has drawn a No. 4 seed in the Midwest Region for this month's NCAA Tournament, which will begin for the Terrapins with a game in Columbus against No. 13-seeded Valparaiso on Friday.

The Crusaders (28-5) are pegged by Ken Pomeroy as the 63rd-best team in college basketball. Under head coach Bryce Drew, they've got a top-35 defense by adjusted efficiency, while their offense is roughly average. They make three-pointers at a 38 percent rate, which could pose problems for the Terrapins.

The Midwest Region is a tough neighborhood, as Maryland's now set up for a Sweet 16 matchup against 34-0 Kentucky if it advances past the opening weekend. If Maryland gets past Valparaiso in its first game, it will face either West Virginia or Buffalo in the second round. But lining up against John Calipari's Wildcats after that would be an excruciatingly tough blow. This is the most talented team college basketball's seen maybe ever, and Maryland's on a collision course with it.
