Maryland vs. Iowa gamethread

Come chat with us as the Terps take on the Iowa Hawkeyes!

Mitch Stringer-USA TODAY Sports

The Terps face another tough road test today at Iowa. Despite their recent struggles, Maryland finds themselves in sole possession of second place in the Big Ten. The Terps have very little room for error, however. Eighth place Michigan is just two games behind Maryland, so the Terps need to rack up some wins to stay ahead of the pack.

Iowa is just 1-3 in their last four games, but two of those losses were to Wisconsin. The Hawkeyes have two wins against Ohio State, to go along with an impressive road win against North Carolina in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge. Maryland enters the game 2-2 in their last four games, with two blowout losses on the road. The Terps will need Melo Trimble to break out of his funk to come away with a win over the Hawkeyes.

The key matchup of the game will probably be Jake Layman vs. Aaron White. The Hawkeye forward has similar physical attributes to Layman, but is not as good of a three-point shooter. White excels at getting to the basket, and he converts free throws at an 80 percent clip. The power forward leads the Hawkeyes in both scoring, and rebounding, so neutralizing him will be a tough assignment for Layman.
