One of Maryland's fringe dream Signing Day targets has officially signed elsewhere. In a slight surprise, Lakewood (Fla.) wide receiver Ryan Davis has signed with Auburn, spurning favorites Florida.
Davis first visited College Park as a part of the "Big Show" event back in June, joining fellow Florida blue-chippers Byron Cowart (who also signed with Auburn Wednesday), Auden Tate, Ray-Ray McCloud III and George Campbell on the trip. Maryland ended up making it deep in the process for each, but will not be able to close out any of them.
Davis is rated as a four-star prospect by the 247Sports Composite, ranking as the No. 24 wide receiver in the country and the No. 27 player in the state of Florida. He returned to College Park for an official visit in September, but a late trip to Auburn sealed the deal.
In the 2015 class, Maryland has commitments from wide receivers DJ Moore and Jahrvis Davenport. Either could end up seeing some playing time next year, as top two receivers Stefon Diggs and Deon Long both departed for the NFL.
