Maryland has lost out on their biggest pipe-dream for the 2015 class. Five-star Armwood (Fla.) defensive end Byron Cowart, who kept the Terps on the fringe of a very impressive list of final schools, committed to Auburn Signing Day. Cowart had narrowed it down to Florida and Auburn before his decision.
Standing at 6'4 and 250 pounds, Cowart is rated as the third-best prospect in the nation by the 247Sports Composite, rating as the best strong-side defensive end in the country and the second-best player in the state of Florida. He first appeared on Maryland's radar at the Big Show back in June, traveling with a number of top Florida prospects up to College Park. He returned in early September for his first official visit.
With Andre Monroe, Keith Bowers and Darius Kilgo graduating, Maryland has a pressing need for instant help on the defensive line. Three-star New York defensive lineman Austrian Robinson, who will announce later Wednesday, is the most likely remaining addition. The Terps have added defensive linemen Keiron Howard, Adam McLean, Oseh Saine and Mbi Tanyi in the class.
