With just one season of playing experience under its belt, the 2014 rookie wide receiver class has quickly entered the conversation as one of the best to ever come out of a single draft. Mike Evans, Sammy Watkins, Odell Beckham Jr., Kelvin Benjamin, Jarvis Landry and John Brown are some of the names that made immediate impact for their respective teams, and have established a high bar of excellence that scouts and GMs look towards in regards to selecting wide receivers in future drafts.
Former Maryland wide receivers Stefon Diggs and Deon Long look to enhance their draft stock with solid performances. Diggs, WO15 in Group 4, will be looking to continue his momentum, after his 10 catches for 138 yard performance against Stanford in the Foster Farms Bowl. Long, WO28 in Group 5, continually impressed coaches during the East West Shrine practices, and led the East team with 4 catches for 29 yards. Many draft experts project Diggs as a 3rd-4th round pick. If Diggs can stay healthy throughout the draft preparation process and perform well today, his stock could vault up to late 2nd-early 3rd round. Long on the other hand is projected as a late-round-UDFA. His speed and impressive workouts could label him as a late-round steal come draft weekend.
In regards to the class of 2015 wide receivers, it may not compare favorably to the class of 2014 top to bottom on paper, but it does boast some pretty impressive skill players that could serve as primary pass catchers for many years to come. Alabama's Amari Cooper, Arizona State's Jaelen Strong, West Virginia's Kevin White and Louisville's Devante Parker headline the group.
