One of Maryland's 2016 linebacking targets is off the board. Fort Pierce Central (Fla.) inside linebacker prospect Greg Simmons committed to Miami Wednesday, he announced on Twitter. He choose the Hurricanes over the Terrapins, Cincinnati and Bowling Green.
Simmons reportedly called Miami his "dream school" upon receiving the offer in early February, signaling the Hurricanes as the likely pick for the prospect. He picked up an offer from the Terrapins in late January, the first major school to offer him. Maryland stood a very good chance in his recruitment until the Hurricanes came calling, and it looks like it's back to the drawing board at the position for Randy Edsall.
Four-star Connecticut prospect Koby Quansah is the only other inside linebacker in the class with a Maryland offer, but Broadneck Senior (Annapolis, Md.) linebacker Ali'i Niumatalolo is a promising prospect who could receive an offer at the Terrapins' Junior Day. The son of Navy head coach Ken Niumatalolo, Ali'i has visited BYU twice and College Park once.
