How to watch Maryland vs. Penn State live online: Game time, TV schedule, live online streaming

New, comments

All you need to know as the Terps head to State College.

Mitch Stringer-USA TODAY Sports

The Terps are coming off a big home win against the same Hoosiers team that beat them handily by 19 points a month earlier, this time defeating Indiana 68-66. Maryland staved off a hot Yogi Ferrell with the help of leading scorers Melo Trimble and Dez Wells, who both contributed 18 points. It was a much needed impressive performance for the Terps, who've been struggling in the last few contests.

Penn State is entering the second of a three-game streak against top 25 teams, losing the first one by 20 points to Ohio State. The Nittany Lions are 3-9 in conference play, but are still 15-10 overall thanks to an easy non-conference schedule. Penn State is led by their senior playmaker D.J. Newbill, who's averaging an impressive 20.7 points per game. The Nittany Lions don't jump off the page in any way, but could spoil the Terps first game in State College and send them back to College Park with a loss.

The numbers

Rankings and records: Maryland is 20-5 and ranked No. 19 in both the AP Poll and the Coaches Poll. Penn State is 15-10 and not ranked in any polls.

KenPom's prediction: Maryland, 65-64. 50 percent chance Maryland wins.

Two things at stake

Maryland has done a pretty impressive job of winning the games they are expected to win and the Terps will certainly want to keep that streak going tonight.

Penn State could use a statement win and play spoiler to the Terps. This could be a gritty and hard fought game, and the Nittany Lions will want to win it in front of their home crowd.

One big matchup

D.J. Newbill vs Melo Trimble. Newbill is one of the only bright spots in Penn State's offense and he's had a ridiculous season, averaging 20.7 points per game and three assists a game. Trimble has been one of the top freshmen in the Big Ten this season and continued his impressive rookie campaign against the Hoosiers, scoring 18 points. This point guard matchup will be one to keep your eye on.
