GameThread: Maryland vs. Marshall

Let's talk about some holiday season basketball in College Park.

Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports

The No. 4-ranked Maryland men's basketball team is here to provide us all some entertainment in the midst of the notoriously quiet five-day gap between Christmas and New Year's Eve, with a 4 p.m. EST tip against Marshall at Xfinity Center on Sunday. Here's a full game preview.

I particularly enjoy this time of year, because everyone's festive and relaxed, yet things aren't quite as hectic as they tend to be in the days immediately leading up to Dec. 25.

The Terps, of course, get no such relaxation. They've got to deal with Marshall here and then turn around quickly for the start of Big Ten play against Penn State on Wednesday, with just two off days in between contests. For college basketball, things are going to start heating up approximately right now.

Marshall should be a fairly straightforward job for Maryland. The Herd is 4-8 and hasn't been very impressive in getting there, and Maryland is 10-1 and has bigger fish to fry on the immediate horizon. But Marshall is Maryland's next order of business, and that makes this game important.

Predictions, anyone?
