University regents expected to vote Friday on name change for Byrd Stadium - Baltimore Sun
University System of Maryland Board of Regents is expected to vote on Friday on a recommendation from Maryland president Dr. Wallace Loh to change the name of Byrd Stadium — a move that would end the long debated issue of whether the school should honor the late campus president who opposed integration. The proposal has the support of chancellor Robert Caret.
I think it is fairly certain that the Regents will approve Loh's recommendation to remove Byrd's name from Maryland's stadium. I'm not sure whether approving the removal of Byrd's name from the stadium also means the adoption of "Maryland Stadium" as the new name, which is what Loh recommended. We think there are better options than renaming the facility as Maryland Stadium.
