Men's Soccer
Sasho Cirovski and Co. are moving on to the Sweet 16 where they will take on Notre Dame. They tied with Notre Dame in the first game of the season and fell to the Fighting Irish two years ago in the national championship game. The Terps haven't forgotten.
Record this week: 1-0 (1-0 win against UVA)
Record this season: (11-5-5)
Grade for the week: A. The Terps are moving on.
Title chances: 4. Maryland will have to get past Notre Dame just to get to second-seeded Clemson in the quarterfinals. The road is tough but the Terps have a decent shot to win it all.
Volleyball
Maryland got swept in both of their matches this week by top-five teams. Their season is coming to a close with Senior Day against Iowa and their season finale at Northwestern.
Record this week: 0-2 (3-0 loss to #3 Minnesota and a 3-0 loss to #4 Penn State)
Record this season: (13-19, 3-15)
Grade for the week: D. Maryland was expected to lose these matches but the compete level last week wasn't as high as it has been or should have been.
Title chances: 0. The Terps have no shot at winning the Big Ten title.
Women's Basketball
Maryland won in blowouts against High Point and Detroit Mercy. Head Coach Brenda Frese picked up career win No. 400 after the 97-41 win against Detroit Mercy.
Record this week: 2-0 (105-50 win against High Point and a 97-41 win against Detroit Mercy)
Record this season: 3-0
Grade for the week: A. Maryland has some weaknesses that need to be addressed but they will easily beat up on opponents like High Point and Detroit Mercy.
Title Chances: 5. Despite some weaknesses, Maryland has a great shot to repeat as Big Ten champs.
Wrestling
Maryland got beaten badly on the scoreboard by Iowa but they won three of the nine matches. Maryland will have to stop giving up bonus points if they want to be competitive against Big Ten competition, but the Terps were definitely not afraid of the second-ranked Hawkeyes. The forfeit at the end just made the score look even more lopsided.
Burnham appears to be the answer at 165 pounds but it is clear that the Terps are missing some of their key contributors. Until they return, Maryland will have trouble beating very good teams.
Record this week: 0-1 (36-9 loss to #2 Iowa)
Record this season: (1-3, 0-1)
Grade for the week: D+. Three Terps picked up decisions against Iowa, including Alfred Bannister, Lou Mascola and Brendan Burnham. However, giving up two pins, two tech-falls and two major decisions is not a recipe for success. All six of Iowa's wins in the dual came by bonus points and that moves to seven if you include the forfeit.
Title Chances: 0. Maryland has no shot at winning the Big Ten.
