Terrapin Title Tracker

This is your weekly roundup of Maryland non-revenue sports action. Let's take a look at their chances to win some hardware this season.

Joe Maiorana-USA TODAY Sports

Men's Soccer

After beating Michigan, the Terps went to a shootout with Indiana. They won and then took out the Big Ten champion Buckeyes in the Big Ten Tournament final by a 2-0 score. Cody Niedermeier and Tsubasa Endoh both won tournament honors as the defensive and offensive most valuable players, respectively. This team is peaking. Last year, they lost their first NCAA Tournament game to UMBC, a team that then made a run to the College Cup. After winning the Big Ten Tournament for the second straight season, it would be a brutal blow if Maryland suffers another early exit in the big dance.

Record this week: 2-0 (3-2 shootout win after 1-1 tie over No. 22 Indiana and 2-0 win over Ohio State

Record this season: (10-5-5, 3-2-3)

Grade for the week: A+. The Terps repeated as Big Ten Tournament champions and beat two ranked teams to do it.

Title chances: 5. Men's Soccer repeated as Big Ten Tournament champions and is playing their best soccer of the season at the perfect time. That didn't translate to the NCAA Tournament last season but head coach Sasho Cirovski has said that this team will be focused and ready to go.

#5 Field Hockey

Maryland started the season poorly by their standards and they finished poorly by their standards. The Terps lost three games in a row for the first time since 1998 and were 2-3 through their first five games. Maryland broke off 17 wins in a row after that, helping them win the Big Ten regular season and tournament titles. Maryland hadn't lost in the first round of the big dance since 1990 but Princeton blitzed them early and the Terrapins couldn't recover. Maryland didn't get on the board until there was about three minutes left in the game.

Record this week: 0-1 (3-1 loss to No. 16 Princeton)

Record this season: (19-4, 8-0)

Grade for the week: C-. After sweeping the Big Ten regular season and tournament titles, the Terps were eliminated in the first round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1990.

Title chances: 0. Maryland's season is over.

Volleyball

Maryland lost two four-setters to two ranked teams last week but again, this team showed a lot of fight and a lot of progress.

Record this week: 0-2 (3-1 loss to No. 17 Purdue and 3-1 loss to No. 8 Nebraska)

Record this season: (13-17, 3-13)

Grade for the week: C. Maryland took a set from two ranked teams, including a top-10 team. After signing their best recruiting class in history, this program has a very bright future ahead of it.

Title chances: 0. The Terps have no shot at winning the Big Ten title.

Women's Basketball

The Terps rolled over UMass Lowell in their season opener. Five players scored in double digits for Maryland and Brene Moseley led the way with a game-high 24 points on 8-13 shooting.

Record this week: 1-0 (102-53 win over UMass Lowell)

Record this season: 1-0

Grade for the week: A+. Maryland did what they needed to do and got the big win in their season opener.

Title Chances: 5. The Terps went undefeated in the Big Ten last season. There is no reason to think they can't repeat as Big Ten champions.
