The Maryland men's basketball team opens its season Friday night, taking on Mount St. Mary's for the seventh time in school history Friday at 7:00 p.m., at Xfinity Center. The Terrapins are 6-0 all-time against the Mountaineers and have won by an average score of 27.8 points. With Ken Pomeroy projecting a 76-61 win for the No. 3 Terrapins, Friday night is likely to be no different.
With sophomore Dion Wiley sidelined for the season with a torn right meniscus, coach Mark Turgeon will have to learn to different and more limited guard combinations. Last week's win against Southern New Hampshire was his first look at what may work, but with SNHU, a Division II team, playing without a player taller than 6'8, the game was difficult to judge.
This is the last game for Maryland before heading into a heavily anticipated matchup against Georgetown, so the Terps need to work efficiently against the Mountaineers and solve the turnover issues that popped up in last week's exhibition win against Southern New Hampshire.
