No. 8 Maryland field hockey begins road trip in Columbus

Senior Welma Luus hopes to continue her impressive play as the Terps play their next five games away from College Park.

Maryland field hockey travels to Ohio State on Friday to begin their five game road trip.

No. 8 Maryland (8-3) takes their six game winning streak into Columbus to face Ohio State (6-3). Senior captain Kasey Tapman said the Terrapins are excited to hit the road. "We haven't traveled much these past couple weeks, so it's good to get out of College Park and see what else is out there."

Ohio State has won five of its last six games, including a double overtime win against Penn State. The Buckeyes are led by senior Peanut Johnson, who has a team-high 15 points. Sophomore goal keeper Liz Tamburro has been excellent, allowing only 1.80 goals per game with two shutouts.

Maryland is hoping senior Welma Luus, the Co-Big Ten Player of the Week last week, can continue her fantastic form. Luus scored three goals in Maryland's last two games, including both goals in the Terrapins' 2-1 win over No. 18 Michigan last Friday.

Coach Missy Meharg said the road trip could be beneficial for the team. "We've been home for about a month now," she said. "I think the women are ready to relax. Being on the road can be very relaxing, especially when you are on the bus. I just want to make sure the WiFi is working and we can get a lot of studying done and planning for October."

The game will be streamed online with a subscription to Buckeye Vision.
