Funk, a 5'11, 190-pound high school senior, is rated the No. 4 safety in Maryland by Scout and the No. 100 safety in the country in next year's class. Rivals ranks him as the No. 35 player in Maryland and a two-star prospect. He was unranked at 247Sports, though he's been updated since his commitment to three stars.
In his announcement, Funk, a two-way player, said he'll play running back at Maryland.
Traditionally, Maryland defensive line coach Chad Wilt has recruited Montgomery County for the Terrapins. Maryland previously missed out on Damascus four-star receiver Jalen Christian, and while Funk isn't a talent quite at that level, it's always important for Maryland to be making local connections.
