Maryland has reportedly picked up their third commitment in the 2016 recruiting class, adding junior college wide receiver Joc Ellison, per IMS Bob Putnam of the Tampa Bay Times Ellison's Twitter account. Ellison will play at Iowa Western Community College this season, the best JuCo program in the nation and former home of Deon Long.
UPDATE: IMS has since deleted their report, and Putnam has deleted his tweet, but Ellison's tweet stands. We'll keep you all updated with how this goes down.
Listed at 5'10 and 170 pounds, Ellison was rated a two-star prospect by the 247Sports composite coming out of Lakewood (Fla.) High School. That is also notably the high school of current top Maryland target Ryan Davis, a four-star 2015 wide receiver prospect. The two are reportedly close and Ellison was Davis's top target at receiver a few years ago (like many top athletes, Davis plays quarterback in high school). Ellison once committed to Indiana in high school, and also held offers from Boise State, Bowling Green and Ball State, among others. As a senior in high school, Ellison was rated as the 254th-best wide receiver in the class and the 300th-best player in the state of Florida.
Ellison is not listed on Iowa Western's roster yet, but he is expected to play there this upcoming season before potentially coming to College Park. You can find some different highlight tapes from high school here.
