College basketball rankings, Week 9: Maryland No. 11 in AP Poll

Maryland just misses out on the top 10

Derik Hamilton-USA TODAY Sports

Maryland continued to climb in the AP poll this week, moving from No. 12 to No. 11. Last week, Maryland won both of their games, a 2OT win on the road against Michigan State and their B1G home opener against Minnesota. This is Maryland's highest ranking since the 2002-2003 season, the year after they won the National Title.

Update: Maryland is also No. 9 in the Coaches Poll.

Around the B1G, Wisconsin remained at No. 4, representing the highest ranked team in the Big Ten. Ohio State was the only other Big Ten conference team ranked this week, dropping from No. 20 to No. 22.

Maryland moved ahead of Iowa State, who they defeated 72-63 back in November, as the Cyclones fell to No. 17 after losing at home to South Carolina on Saturday. Virginia, the only team to defeat Maryland so far this season, remained at No. 3, trailing just Kentucky and Duke.

Maryland travels to Illinois (Wednesday) and Purdue (Saturday) this week. Both Illinois (No. 56) and Purdue (No. 75) are ranked in the top 100 in KenPom's latest ranking; Maryland is 17th.
