After last year's event took place at Cole Field House, Maryland Madness will return to the Terrapins' main arena in 2014. The newly named XFINITY Center will host the 2014 event on Oct. 17 at 8 p.m., Maryland has announced in a press release.
Madness will offer fans a first formal glimpse at the huge new video board being installed for the upcoming season. For many, it'll be a first chance to see the Big Ten's logo painted on Gary Williams Court.
Both the men's and women's basketball teams will unveil new uniforms at the event, too, though it wasn't clear from the department's press release whether those would be regular or alternate digs.
Maryland Madness will be the first chance for fans to get a glimpse of the 2014-15 Maryland men's and women's basketball teams, in addition to the brand new state-of-the-art video board in the XFINITY Center. The Terrapin men and women will also be unveiling new 2014-15 Under Armour uniforms.
The athletic department is encouraging fans to arrive at 5 p.m. to see Maryland's volleyball team face Michigan State.
Maryland Madness has become an important recruiting tool for the program. The late-night opening practice tradition across college basketball was born with Lefty Driesell's Maryland team in 1971, named "Midnight Madness" at the time.
There has been no immediate word about on any special guests who might attend this year's event. Who would you like to see?
