The Big Ten Conference went 12-2 in college football's opening weekend, with only Northwestern and Wisconsin not coming away with a win. Here's a closer look at each team:
Illinois
It took a fourth quarter comeback, but the Fighting Illini were able to salvage a disappointing effort against Youngstown State and walk away with a 28-17 win. Sophomore quarterback Wes Lunt, who sat out last season after transferring from Oklahoma State, was a bright spot, throwing for four TD's and 285 yards.
Coach Tim Beckman said after the game that his team needs to pick up the pace and start faster. Illinois will get its change to improve when it hosts Western Kentucky on Saturday.
Indiana
The Hoosiers kicked off the season with a 28-10 victory over Indiana State. Tevin Coleman rushed for a career-high 247 yards, which was also fifth-best in school history and a record at Memorial Stadium.
Indiana will next hit the road to travel to Bowling Green.
Iowa
The Hawkeyes got a scare from FCS school Northern Iowa, but pulled out the win 31-23. Freshman linebacker Bo Bower, who had an interception in the game, has since moved into the No. 1 spot on the depth chart.
Iowa hosts Ball State on Saturday.
Michigan
The Wolverines finally got revenge against Appalachian State with a 52-14 rout. Freshman cornerback Jabrill Peppers sat out the second half as a precaution for an ankle injury, but Brady Hoke expects him to play in Week 2.
Safety Delano Hill also missed the opener but will be "ready to go" Saturday, when a game against No. 17 Notre Dame in South Bend awaits. It will be the last scheduled game between the two schools for the foreseeable future after the Irish announced they are ending the series.
Michigan State
The Spartans easily handled Jacksonville State 45-7 in their opener, but have an immediate test this Saturday with a showdown versus No. 3 Oregon in Eugene with CollegeGameDay in attendance.
The health of left guard Travis Jackson, wide receiver Macgarrett Kings Jr. and quarterback Connor Cook are all in question, but head coach Mark Dantonio says he doesn't speak on injuries.
Minnesota
The Gophers beat Eastern Illinois 42-20 on Thursday night, but three defensive linemen were injured during the game and had to undergo MRI exams. Coach Jerry Kill said Sunday that it especially doesn't look good for junior Scott Ekpe, but the extent of his injury is unknown at this time.
Minnesota will host Middle Tennessee on Saturday.
Nebraska
Nebraska wide receiver Jordan Westerkamp made what will likely still hold up as one of the catches of the year by season's end when he caught a pass behind his back as part of a 55-7 rout of Florida Atlantic.
The team's 784 yards of offense against Florida Atlantic established a modern day conference record, the most by a Big Ten school since 1905.
Running back Ameer Abdullah won Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honors after rushing for a career-high 232 yards.
The Cornhuskers will face McNeese State in Week 2.
Northwestern
The Wildcats had their 16-game non-conference home winning streak snapped when they fell to Cal 31-24, despite entering the game as double digit favorites.
They'll take on Northern Illinois on Saturday.
Ohio State
As a 2014 season without Braxton Miller began, the Buckeyes found themselves down at halftime and struggled to pull away from Navy until late. J.T. Barrett threw for 226 yards and Ohio State extended its regular season winning streak to 25 games.
For his efforts, Barrett was named the Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Week.
Tight end Marcus Baugh sat out the opener and on Monday Urban Meyer said that Baugh was suspended for the Navy game, as well as the next, for "stuff."
The Buckeyes will take on the familiar face of Virginia Tech Saturday night.
Penn State
The Nittany Lions opened up the James Franklin era by traveling to Dublin, Ireland for a game against UCF, and won on a last-second field goal. Sophomore QB Christian Hackenberg threw for a school-record 454 yards.
Sam Ficken won the conference's Special Teams Player of the Week honors after hitting four field goals against UCF, including the 36-yarder that won the game.
Wide receiver DaeSean Hamilton was named the Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Week after he became the first Penn State freshman since 2005 to eclipse 100 receiving yards in a game
Penn State will host Akron on Saturday.
Purdue
The Boilermakers 43-34 win over Western Michigan was their first win over an FBS opponent since 2012. Linebacker Jimmy Herman suffered a broken thumb during the game and will be out for two weeks.
Purdue also got good feedback from fans for its new south end zone tailgate patio.
On Saturday, they'll try to go 2-0 against teams from the state of Michigan when they host Central Michigan.
Rutgers
The Scarlet Knights traveled to the West Coast and came from behind to take down Washington State, 41-38. It was Rutgers first-ever win over a Pac-12 school, and it was a win that the team's recruits took note of.
On Monday, defensive back Johnathan Aiken was named the conference's Defensive Player of the Week. Aiken had seven tackles in the win over WSU.
Rutgers will host Howard on Saturday.
Wisconsin
The Badgers would see a 24-7 fourth quarter lead against No. 13 LSU dissipate on their way to falling 27-24.
Junior running back Melvin Gordon suffered a hip flexor strain during the game and missed the second half. Tanner McEvoy will remain the starting quarterback despite struggling versus LSU -- he went 8-of-24 for 50 yards and two interceptions.
Defensive end Konrad Zagzebski has been released from the hospital after being taken off the field in a stretcher. His status for the Badgers next game is unknown.
Wisconsin will see a much easier foe when they host Western Illinois Saturday.
