The Big Ten Network released its 2014 women's volleyball broadcast schedule Monday afternoon. The network, together with ESPN2 and ESPN3 will air a total of 27 contests. While the BTN showed Maryland soccer and field hockey plenty of love and respect with regard to the number of games that will feature the Terrapins, the same cannot be said for the volleyball squad. Of course, respect must be earned so it's not surprising that Maryland's only appearance Will Likely come when the Terps face Rutgers in College Park on October 21. Not coincidentally, this will probably be Rutgers' only appearance as well.
I've added the qualifier because the BTN has four wild card dates and the Terps have games scheduled on each of those dates. If Maryland has surprised some folks and is playing better than expected, or if there is a logjam in the middle of the conference standings, then two of these matches not currently on either schedule - November 1 against Nebraska and November 8 at Penn State have broadcast potential. The remaining wild card dates are October 31 and November 12. Both of those matches - versus Iowa and at Purdue - have been slotted for BTN Plus. It is possible that one or the other could upgrade to the network's broadcast slot.
Supplementing the 27 games on the national network, the B1G plans to air a minimum of 82 additional games on the Big Ten's streaming and mobile platform, BTN Plus. This part of the Big Ten Network will stream 13 of Maryland's 20 conference contests. Here is the schedule of Terrapins games that will stream on BTN Plus:
