The Big Ten released their 2014-2015 basketball schedule Thursday, Maryland's first as a member of the conference. Maryland will start conference play December 30 with a trip to Michigan State, with the first home game January 3 against Minnesota.
Update: Maryland followed up the announcement with their full schedule, included below.
The toughest portion of Maryland schedule will likely be in mid-to-late February, when the Terps will host Nebraska, Wisconsin and Michigan in the span of 10 days.
The Big Ten previously announced that they won't be preserving rivalries in basketball, instead opting to adopt a rotating schedule of opponents. Here is the breakdown of how that schedule will work, according to the Big Ten Network:
...the new league schedule system will rotate in three-year cycles. Each school will have five home-and-home foes each season, and eight single-play opponents. As with the previous scheduling format, every Big Ten team will face the rest of the league at least once for an 18-game conference menu.
While this will be Maryland's first season in the Big Ten, the Terrapins still have some history with several of the teams they'll now face on a regular basis. The Terps defeated Indiana to capture the 2002 National Title, have faced Michigan State multiple times in the NCAA tournament, and played several of the other teams as part of the Big Ten-ACC challenge.
