According to Inside Maryland Sports, Paul VI/Team Takeover (AAU) rising senior point guard Kevin Dorsey (6-0/170) has cut his list of potential destinations down to three contenders, and they're all B1G - Maryland, Nebraska and Minnesota - and could make a final decision within a week.
Dorsey is composite 4-star prospect, ranked as the 95th overall player in the Class of 2015, 17th ranked point guard and 6th best player in Virginia.
As a player, he has a reputation as a spark plug. He's quick and active on defense, always giving energy. That's where he impresses most right now. He's also one of, if not *the*, fastest guards in the area. On offense he's a great cutter, penetrator and adept passer. Jump shooting isn't a major part of his game, but as a player that's always been able to just get past his man, that might be because it hasn't been a necessity.
Besides the obvious - that he's a top 100, 4-star player a position of need - I've always found Dorsey a perfect fit for the what the Terrapin basketball team should look like in 2015. Their stable of guards will be stocked with methodical players that excel with outside shooting. Dorsey brings a completely different type of game, and one that would be extremely valuable off the bench. He also has the potential, and opportunity, to develop into a major contributor.
I see Maryland as the major favorite to land Dorsey, whenever he makes his decision. He raved about his College Park visit to IMS, and although that article is paywalled, they did give a quick free quote that's fairly telling:
"I really loved it there. Hopefully I'll make the decision soon."
Here's his mixtape. Enjoy.
