5-star 2016 DE Shane Simmons to announce decision July 30

The DeMatha star is down to Maryland, Ohio State, Florida State, Penn State and Alabama.

Maryland had a weekend news drop this Saturday, as five-star DeMatha defensive end Shane Simmons announced the Terps were one of his top five schools. Maryland joined a prestigious group of programs in that top five -- Ohio State, Florida State, Penn State and Alabama -- and we noted the Terps are probably on the outside looking in, with the Seminoles as the favorite.

We'll find out soon enough, it seems, as Rivals' Adam Friedman is reporting Simmons will announce his decision July 30, picking between those five schools. Simmons is considered a five-star prospect by the 247sports composite, ranking as the second-best strong-side defensive end in the nation and the top player in the state of Maryland.

The rumor mill has Simmons headed to Florida State -- 80% of the 15 Crystal Ball predictions predict as much, with 13% saying Ohio State and 7% picking Penn State. A Terrapin commit would be a huge upset, even without considering the staff's troubles with DeMatha.

There are actually three Maryland targets announcing around that time -- Simmons, Tremaine Edmunds (July 31) and Ray-Ray McCloud III (July 28). None are expected to pick the Terps, but Maryland is a finalist for the first two. McCloud is reportedly down to Florida, Clemson and UCLA, while Edmunds will pick between Virginia Tech, Maryland, North Carolina and USC.
