High School Highlights:
How'd He Get to College Park?
Gray was a relatively early commitment for the Terrapins, pledging in early June 2013 after visiting College Park. He was the Terps' fifth commitment at the time (two of the previous four later decommitted), and was Maryland's first Ohio commitment since Travis Baltz in 2007.
At Chardon, Gray was a key cog in the school's run-heavy scheme. He's a block-first tight end who will get into the dirt and beat down defenders, and could be useful early for the Terps. He was named second-team Division III All-Ohio by the Associated Press, first-team All-District and first-team all-league.
Profiling the entire team
Nickname:
"Chard"
Career Highlight:
Signing with Maryland.
Dream Season:
Seeing action as a true freshman.
2014 Prospectus:
Gray has impressive physicality and could play an early role on special teams or in the goal-line unit. Maryland will likely start P.J. Gallo at tight end this season, but former blue-chip recruit Andrew Isaacs will also fight for time. That leaves Derrick Hayward and Gray fighting for that third spot. I like Gray's chances -- he's a better blocker than Hayward, and is more experienced at the position.
Up Next:
Our next player is a converted outside linebacker.
