Running back Deltron Sands out of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. will make his way to College Park in 2015. The promising prospect from Florida powerhouse St. Thomas Aquinas announced the decision on his Twitter account Friday night, making his rumored destination a reality.
The commitment comes with little surprise, as Sands was looking for a Big Ten school and had said he planned to commit to the Terps shortly following the Maryland Spring Game on April 11.
The Florida native is considered a three-star prospect by 247sports composite as well as the 102nd-best running back in the country. He helped lead St. Thomas Aquinas High School to a 10-3 record this past season.
Sands also had offers from Syracuse, Cincinnati, Wake Forest, and Western Michigan.
The commitment shows signs of hope in tapping into the Sunshine State which boasts a bevy of talent. Don't be fooled by Sands' 5-foot-9, 185-pound stature. His game speaks for itself, and he could compete for playing time very early in his Maryland career.
The highlight reel should put some doubts to rest.
Sands joins four-star offensive tackle E.J. Donahue as Maryland's lone commitments in the 2015 class.
